Grown in Australia
What and Where An edible root that has been used for its medicine and culinary properties for thousands of years. It is a member of the Zingiberaceae family which also includes turmeric and galangal and is native to South Asia. Our ginger comes from Australia’s prime ginger growing area, Buderim near the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. We don’t buy from one particular grower; we buy whatever looks best on the day.
Flavour Fragrant and zingy raw, spicy and warm cooked
Texture Hard and fibrous
Use Ginger is used in a wide variety of sweet and savoury dishes – from a moist and spicy loaf to a fresh and tangy stir fry.
Cooking Tip Ginger freezes incredibly well – it keeps it texture and its flavour and is actually easier to peel and slice.
Selection and Storage Choose ginger that is firm (it should not bend). Keep refrigerated. Can also be frozen as the texture and flavour of ginger does not deterrioriate on defrosting.
